Overview

The Data Science programme at the University of Messina include statistical techniques and information technologies used to select, process, and analyze large amounts of data to extract added value for decision-making processes in various application areas.

Key facts

The LM-Data program has the following educational objectives:

a) develop an adequate set of problem-solving skills and approaches through the techniques and methodologies learned to formulate, even in innovative ways, qualitative and quantitative solutions to complex problems involving data processing and analysis;

b) provide a multidisciplinary education that encompasses both specific technical and scientific knowledge and fundamental knowledge of the business, legal, and/or social contexts in the field of data processing and analysis;

c) deepen the principles of the Data Economy, Data-driven Business, and Business Intelligence to analyze complex macro- and microeconomic phenomena that influence political, economic, and social decisions and business strategies;

d) provide basic knowledge to combine mathematical, statistical, and computer science technologies and methodologies with specific methods and techniques to adapt them to the relevant application context;

e) develop the ability to effectively support technological and organizational change and innovation in companies, public, and private entities and administrations, particularly in aspects involving the use and processing of large amounts of data, taking into account security and privacy constraints;

f) develop next-generation scientific and cultural profiles that respond to the emerging digital transformation needs of all organizations, both public and private, striving for high competitiveness in their respective sectors and in a globalized context.
