Overview

Extensive End-of-Life Care (EELC) adopts the unique approach of deinstitutionalizing and normalizing of the dying process.

With a passion for life and compassion for suffering as the two key attributes of the programme, health care professionals will be trained to instil hope to older people and their family members in the process – the hope for the best in their final life journey.

Key Facts

The aims of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University programme are to enable learners to:

• comprehend the end-of-life philosophy and principles to address an emerging needs, and to contribute to the quality end-of-life care needs of individuals in society;

• enhance physical comfort for care recipients throughout their disease trajectory;

• respond to the challenges of clinical and ethical decision-making in end-of-life care;

• develop interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to end-of-life care;

• be able to listen and self-reflect, practise self-awareness, and undergo continuing professional development in end-of-life care.
