Programme objectives

The general objectives of the Library and Information Science programme at Alagappa University are:

To train students for a professional career in Library and Information Services;
To produce quality manpower for collection, compilation and dissemination of information products and services in and beyond conventional libraries and information centres;
To give the students an understanding of the basic principles of fundamental laws of Library and
Information Science and to enable them to understand, appreciate and develop professionalism to work in contemporary “Information Age”.
To make students fully aware of various sources of information; and train them in techniques of dissemination of information in the context of different user groups.
