Overview
As part of this Primary Education (3-7) with Recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status program from Leeds Beckett University, you’ll:
- Develop your knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum
- Ensure your teaching fulfils the requirements set out by the government
- Embrace areas of learning and principles of best practice in early primary education across all subjects
- Focus on developing your skill in teaching mathematics, English and science at both key stages
- Put your theoretical knowledge into practice by completing three teaching placements in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1
- Develop your teaching skills across different age ranges to help prepare for future employment
- Learn how to develop children's abilities through playful learning and creative teaching
- Reflect on how teaching methods and opportunities and environments can influence outcomes
Careers
Successful completion of the course will lead to the recommendation of Qualified Teacher Status. Although the three-to-seven-years specialism enables you to work across the whole primary age range, it is geared directly to the early years sector, where there is increasing demand for highly trained professionals.

General requirements
- Applicants should have at least a 2:1 honours degree, or a 2:2 honours degree plus evidence of wider experience in a UK school or foundation setting relevant to Primary/Early Years education.
- GCSE English Language, Maths and a Science at Grade 4 (Grade C for those sitting their GCSE before 2017) or above, or an equivalent award including some equivalency tests, are required prior to the course start (Evidence should usually be provided by 1 September). Functional Skills and the Certificate in Adult Numeracy/Literacy are not accepted in place of GCSEs.
