Overview
Service Design Strategies and Innovations is an international curriculum, delivered by a consortium of 4 higher education institutions – the Art Academy of Latvia, the university of Lapland in Finland, the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, and the Estonian Academy of Arts.
About Erasmus Mundus status:
SDSI consortium has signed a Grant Agreement with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Starting with the study year 2023/2024, SDSI becomes an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme.
It is a sign of quality and recognition. Erasmus Mundus programmes are being evaluated by the European Commission and only some are selected and deemed worthy of the status. Programme is designed so that it corresponds the labor market trends – this could be your way to become a versatile service innovator who can enable change in public and private organisations through strategic design, management and creative leadership.
To make this educational journey even more exciting, the studies will take you to 3 countries – Latvia, Finland and Estonia, letting you expand your horizons - meet new culture and new people during your way top become a versatile professional with an agile mindset.

Degree
Multiple degree: Master of Arts (Art and Design) by the University of Lapland, Master of Design by the Art Academy of Latvia, Master of Arts by the Estonian Academy of Arts, and a joint diploma supplement.
Accreditation
Thanks to the Erasmus Mundus status SDSI is now an international masters’ programme that is jointly designed and delivered by 3 Nordic partners – the AAL, the University of Lapland in Finland, and the Estonian Art Academy. Therefore students will receive a master diploma from each university as well as joint diploma supplement.
Programme Structure
The Study process will start in picturesque Kuldiga, Latvia. As the studies will be on-site only, students will spend two semesters in Latvia, followed by one semester in Finland and one in Estonia. Brand new experience, brand new horizons, different cultures, unique people and valuable knowledge – all this will lay in SDSI programme.
Audience
Service design is a multidisciplinary field. As the experience has already shown - knowledge and experience meet here. SDSI content structure is designed on the 4 basic knowledge of service design, i.e., design, business, technology and social science.
Lecturers
Service Design Strategies and Innovations lecturers are an international team, coming from the 4 consortium universities: the Art Academy of Latvia, the University of Lapland, Estonian Art Academy and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. Living costs for Rovaniemi
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
Service Design Strategies and Innovations study programme has been awarded the status of Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) programme* and has received financial support from the European Union, the SDSI consortium can now apply a 50% discount to the SDSI original study fee (8000 EUR per year), starting with the study year 2023/2024. The discounted study fee is 4000 EUR per year, and applies to students originating from the EU, EEA or Switzerland. Study fee for students from the rest of the world remains the same – 8000 EUR per year.
SDSI consortium can annually award the Erasmus Mundus scholarships in the amount of 1400 EUR / month and completely waive the study fee for 20 students of excellence ( considering geographical factor)
