What You’ll Learn
Throughout the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in Shanghai and NYC MA program offered at New York University, you will:

Your Academic Experience
The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in Shanghai and NYC MA program offered at New York University is taught in English and grounded in cutting-edge pedagogical methods from the US. You’ll learn from American-trained NYU Steinhardt faculty who have expertise in second and foreign language acquisition research and methodology and specific experience working with Chinese students.
You’ll experience your course work in three ways:
- Five on-site, in-person courses in Shanghai, typically in the evenings and on Saturdays during the Fall and Spring terms, and at varying times during the summer immersion
- Three online courses using NYU Classes, our specially designed online learning platform for synchronous and asynchronous learning
- Two on-site, in-person courses in New York City, taught over one month in a summer immersion that explores the cultural landscape of the city and lets you observe in selected schools

The ideal candidate will:
- Be comfortable taking immersive courses taught entirely in English
- Have a bachelor’s degree in English, linguistics, education or a related field
- Be available to attend summer courses in year one at NYU Shanghai, and a summer immersion program in New York City in year two
- Have one year teaching or related work experience
