Program and courses

Study the neurological and neuropsychological aspects of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders and brain conditions (e.g., Parkinson's disease or epilepsy), as well as the normal and pathological age-related changes in cognition, behavior, and brain. You will study these disorders and changes from the perspective of various psychological disciplines, such as clinical (neuro)psychology, clinical neuroscience, and applied neuroscience. Acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in both neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation, with a focus on the biological origins and brain mechanisms underlying these disorders.

• You will do an internship, which can be external or internal.
  • During the external internship, you will work for an institution that cares for patients with neuropsychological complaints. These institutions include rehabilitation centers and institutions for general healthcare, elderly care, and youth care.
  • During an internal internship, you will practice neuropsychological assessments, and design digital interventions within the department of Cognitive Neuropsychology at Tilburg University .

• If you do an external internship, you can acquire the basic registration of psychodiagnostics (BAPD) and fulfill the criteria for the registration of the association LOGO (Vereniging Landelijk Overleg Geestelijke Gezondheidszorg Opleidingsinstellingen). This also gives you a good connection to the postgraduate GZ training.

As a psychologist trained in clinical neuropsychology, you possess a broad range of expertise, enabling you to work across diverse domains, including mental health care, education, policy-making, and business settings.

• In the generalistic basic healthcare, your expertise as a clinical neuropsychologist will bridge the gap between clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. You will attend to patients in the acute (hospital) stage, and in the chronic phases, as a result of neurological, psychiatric or neurodevelopmental disease like TBI/Stroke, dementia/cognitive decline.
• Many healthcare organizations in the Netherlands require Dutch language proficiency and clinical documentation. If you wish to continue with post-academic education to become a GZ-psychologist, you will need a vLOGO. The program provides you with the possibility to the fulfill theoretical requirements and/or diagnostic experience required for the clinical documentation (BAPD and/or v-LOGO).
• Do you want to work outside of the Netherlands? Please be aware that each country has its own licensing and qualification requirements.

• Practitioner under supervision (e.g. within elderly care, hospitals, or healthcare clinics)
• Policy officer or advisor at government agencies, healthcare, or educational institutions
• Developer and/or coordinator of digital clinics and online care modules at mental health institutions.
• Developer of measuring instruments at test publishers
