There is a growing demand for English language teachers. Through online courses and 90 hours of practicum experience, you'll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to teach English language learners. Teach English in K-12 settings, intensive English programs, community adult programs, or abroad.

What can you do with a master's in TESOL?

ELL / ESL is a thriving field. As a graduate, you'll be eligible for the North Dakota ELL teacher endorsement and may completely or partially fulfill ELL, ESL or TESOL endorsement requirements in other states.

A master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from University of North Dakota will allow you to engage with your students in productive ways. You may teach at a public or private school, community college or community-based organization.

Your proficiency will include understanding the complex linguistic, educational and cultural variables involved in teaching English language learners.

General requirements

A four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university (for U.S. degrees, accreditation by HLC, MSCHE, NECHE, NWCCU, SACSCOC, or WSCUC)
A cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.75 for all undergraduate work or a GPA of at least 3.0 for the junior and senior years of undergraduate work (based on A = 4.00).
Satisfy the School of Graduate Studies’ English Language Proficiency requirements as published in the graduate catalog.
Students currently enrolled in UND’s Graduate Certificate in TESOL Program who want to transfer to the M.Ed. in TESOL program must apply for admission to the M.Ed. program.
