The Theology and Religious Studies programme at the University of Groningen focuses on the relationship between religion, culture and society. You will learn to understand and analyse their dynamics.You can choose from four specializations:

  • Religion, Conflict and Globalization
  • You will acquire knowledge of the relationship between religion, conflict and peace building.
  • Religion and Cultural Heritage
  • Specialization in material and immaterial heritage
  • Religion and Pluralism, Ancient & Modern
  • Focus on the relations among Jews, Christians, and Muslims in the antique world and how these relations have formed our modern society.
  • Religion, Health and Wellbeing
  • Examines what it means to be ill or healthy in diverse, individualized and highly technological societies.

Job prospects

With a degree in Theology and Religious Studies, you can work as an advisor or policymaker. You can find a job in the media and in journalism, or enter the field of education. You can also pursue a research career at a university or research institution. As a spiritual caregiver you can work in care facilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies or in a related field of Arts, Philosophy or Social Sciences (e.g. Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology) Students with another bachelor's degree may be admitted via a bridging programme
