Overview

The MA or MSc candidate from Simon Fraser University, works under the guidance of a faculty advisor or "senior supervisor", pending the choice of a supervisory committee.

The supervisory committee, consists of two faculty members (the senior supervisor and one additional member). The second member, who will be chosen by the beginning of the second semester, may be from outside the department of Geography.

Features

Expectations that are clear, explicit and mutually accepted are the basis of a good supervisory relationship. These expectations should be discussed and agreed upon very early in the relationship.

Senior Supervisors and students should, at the start of the supervisory relationship, agree on a plan of study for the student’s degree program with clear ‘milestones’ denoting progress, reflecting departmental criteria for progress through the program.
The plan may be expressed in writing and communicated to the Supervisory Committee. In all cases, there should be an explicit understanding that it may be changed in light of future developments.

a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.33 scale, or 3.33 on a 4.33 scale (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses. All graduate work is also considered.
