The Secondary Physical Education course at University of Chester aims to provide high-quality education and training, and modules will provide you with: critical understanding of pedagogy, assessment and curriculum critical knowledge, understanding and skills in specialist age phases and subjects critical knowledge and understanding of wider professional issues, e.g. behaviour management and inclusive practice enrichment opportunities at least 120 days of school-based learning

The Secondary Physical Education course at University of Chester is intended to produce reflective practitioners who teach the 11-18 age range. They will be:

enthusiastic and confident in the classroom

pedagogically skilful and adaptable

specialists in the teaching of Physical Education

able to see their subject in the context of the whole curriculum

competent in a number of areas that cross secondary school curriculum boundaries

able to work as part of a team.

Career opportunities

On successfully completing your PGCE, you will attain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This will mean that you can then go on to become a teacher in your chosen area when you graduate.

To support you in securing your first teaching post, we host a careers event for each course to support you as you prepare for the teaching market.

Your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) will be able to advise on your personal statement and can also provide a reference for you.

Once you graduate, whatever you’re PGCE route, you’ll be able to teach across the entire 3-11 age range, and in secondary schools.
