At the Faculty of Science and Engineering, we offer students a Masters degree programme in Mechanical Engineering at University of Groningen that fits the needs of digital technology and digital society. 


We offer a master degree in Mechanical Engineering at University of Groningen. The university is a unique place where engineering, natural sciences and social Sciences meet to tackle urgent societal challenges. It prepares you for an international digital and high-tech career in industry.

To train and prepare students to apply principles of engineering, science and mathematics in the modelling, analysis, design and realization of physical systems, components and processes; special focus is on advanced instrumentation, smart factories, process design for energy systems and materials for mechanical engineering.

Job prospects

  • After your studies you can perform a wide range of jobs. Jobs can be found in Research & Development departments of larger companies, at design & construction companies, in engineering consultancy, or at research institutes. 
  • The type of job ranges from technical leadership positions to management positions. Other possibilities include performing a PhD project at a university or starting your own company.

  • The Admissions Board will decide whether you can be admitted to the Master's degree programme, based on your credentials. Possibly you might need to do a tailor made bridging programme.
  • Students with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related might be accepted. In addition, the student needs to have sufficient experience with a complete mechanical systems design process.
