Overview

The goal of the International Master Program on Natural Hazards Mitigation and Management of the National Cheng Kung University is to teach students about the mechanisms of various natural disasters and related management and prevention methods, enhance their ability to manage disasters and formulate prevention and relief strategies, and ultimately realize the ideals and goals of disaster prevention and mitigation.

Key facts

Because Taiwan is located in an area prone to natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and floods, and recognizing the importance of disaster prevention education, and in line with the "Eagle Project" aimed at improving the English proficiency of the entire university, the College of Engineering commissioned the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, along with six other departments including the College of Engineering, the College of Social Sciences, and the College of Urban Planning and Design, to jointly plan and establish an interdisciplinary international master's degree program in disaster prevention education. The Department of Hydraulic Engineering was responsible for the main administrative and teaching resources of this program. It was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in 2012 and began enrolling students in the 2013-2014 academic year.
