About

The Automotive Engineering programme at Loughborough University will build on your existing engineering skills and enhance your understanding of the latest automotive technologies, including the development of the next generation of vehicles that feature new hardware, software, autonomy and electrification.

Overview

You will look in depth at modern trends and methods in automotive engineering and will be given the appropriate analysis techniques to model and design contemporary vehicles. You will also learn how to plan, execute and evaluate projects related to automotive systems and be able to interpret and analyse relevant data. Additionally, programme content will use mathematics and science skills to solve complex automotive engineering problems, as well as focusing on the societal, environmental and regulatory issues related to this ever-developing sector.

The department has a strong and growing research programme with world-class activities and facilities. We have four major research groups working across the technologies of automotive and aeronautical engineering. Research topics range from the development of new design methodologies for hybrid powertrains to aerodynamic experiments and simulation. Teaching on the programme is closely aligned to and informed by our research and our close links to industry.
