Overview
A key feature of the the Applied Economics program from BRAC University is the application of economic tools in practical settings. It thus aims to strike a balance between theory and practice. After completion of a core component consisting of graduate level microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative methods and econometrics, students have the option of concentrating in one of the three key areas:
- Econometrics
- Financial Economics
- Public Policy

Graduates MSAE program have a wide range of career opportunities in various fields, including:
- Higher Education : MSAE graduates who are interested in pursuing further study can do so by enrolling in PhD programs in economics or related fields. The advanced training and practical experience that they receive from the MSAE program will provide them with a strong foundation for further study and research. This can lead to careers in academia and research, where they can share their knowledge and expertise with students and contribute to the advancement of the field.
- Government organizations: Graduates can pursue a career in civil service.
- Private sector: Graduates can work as economic analysts or researchers in private sector organizations, including banks, consulting firms, research institutions and multinational corporations.
- International organizations: Graduates can work as economists in international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and United Nations etc.
- Academia and research: Graduates can pursue academic research and teaching opportunities in universities or research institutes.
- NGOs: Graduates can work in non-government organizations as program officers or researchers in fields related to economic development and policy analysis.

General requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree with 16 years of Education - at least 2nd class/division obtained or CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 in Economics. Those with degrees in business studies, physical sciences, engineering or social sciences are also eligible to apply but may have to take foundation courses.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 or 2nd Class in SSC/equivalent and HSC/equivalent separately (including additional subject).
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 in O-Levels in five subjects and A-Levels in two subjects according to the scale (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 & E=1). Only one E is acceptable.
- Interview is mandatory for all qualified applicants
