How should institutional investors invest their clients’ money? Should you hedge currency risk? What is the effect of high frequency trading on financial markets? Asset management (or investment management) studies portfolios of assets, typically including stocks, bonds and cash, for individuals or companies.
In the Asset Management (Finance) programme of the University of Amsterdam you will learn more about:
- the market microstructure of financial markets and how it affects prices;
- theories underlying the pricing of securities and important investment-related questions;
- the pricing of derivative securities.
This is your track if you are interested in pursuing a career in the asset management industry.
Career prospects
Graduates of the Master's in Finance/Asset Management track have excellent job prospects for positions as portfolio manager, investment manager, risk manager, options trader and asset manager with pensions funds, hedge funds, private banking, mutual funds and regulatory institutions. General requirements
- An academic Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Finance, or a degree in Business Economics, Economics or Business Administration with a specialisation in Finance or Real Estate Finance
- Eligible candidates must have at least 15 ECTS of: courses in finance. This should include: Investments, Corporate Finance, and Derivatives. Courses in econometrics (2nd or 3rd year course)
- Applicants with Bachelor's degrees in other areas must additionally have proven knowledge of: microeconomics, macroeconomics, accounting, mathematics and statistics at foundation-year level
- English language proficiency
- GMAT or GRE scores
