The Master of Science in Library and Information Management [MSc(LIM)] programme at The University of Hong Kong is designed to prepare candidates from all backgrounds and occupations for professional work in the fastest-growing area of the economy, the information sector.

About

The Faculty is a member of the iSchools. We offer a master degree in Library and Information Management at The University of Hong Kong. We are recognised as the information professional who possesses the expertise of understanding of the users and users of information, the nature of information itself, as well as information technologies and their applications.   

We are the only institution in Hong Kong joined the iSchools along with other top-tier members such as University College London, University of California-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of Toronto.

Accreditation

The MSc(LIM) programme is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) of the UK.

Programme Structure

Mode of Attendance

  • Full Time (normally one year, up to a maximum of two years)
  • Part Time (normally two years, up to a maximum of four years)
  • Classes normally will be held on weekdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and on Saturday mornings and afternoons at HKU Campus.  Some day-time classes will be held on weekdays.

Academic Requirements

  • This programme does not recognise GRE® scores.

    The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. The GRE® General Test contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

General Requirements

  • comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
  • hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  • satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.
