
Overview
During the Human Movement Sciences - Sport, Exercise and Health (Research Master) programme offered at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam you’ll cover topics ranging from molecular biology to systems neuroscience, and from biomechanics to motor behaviour.

- This Research Master's is a selective programme, with up to 30 highly motivated students per year. That means you’ll benefit from interactive lectures and small-scale teaching sessions.
- The first year prepares you for scientific research. It also allows you to choose your own combination of courses to tailor your programme. Your second year is devoted to conducting a research project of your choice. Throughout the programme, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the full empirical scientific research cycle.
Start your career
- To date, about 70% of our alumni have taken up research positions. You’ll also be well equipped to start working in other research-related roles, or to pursue a career as an embedded scientist or knowledge broker in the fields of sports or health.
- If you decide not to embark on a scientific career after graduating, that’s no problem – you’ll still benefit from excellent career prospects. For instance, alumni have found work in ICT, movement-related technology, teaching in higher education, research-related coordination and management.

General requirements
- In order to be eligible for admission to the Research Master’s programme Human Movement Sciences, you need to have at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 EC or equivalent.
- a relevant Bachelor's degree, such as human movement sciences, medicine, dentistry, health sciences, medical biology, or biomedical technology
- good grades ‐ a GPA of 7.0 (out of 10) or higher (or the international equivalent, e.g. a B+ or a GPA of 3.3) for the final two years of the Bachelor's programme
- strong interest in and aptitude for research, as demonstrated in research oriented courses, internships and/or thesis
- proficiency in English (see language requirements)
- the admission procedure includes an interview.
