Overview
Key facts
The objective of the program is to provide the students with the theoretical background and research skills needed for investigating social problems and issues in today’s societies. The graduates of the Anthropology Master of Arts Program will obtain the academic skills required to examine cultural authenticities and social change, especially through qualitative research methods.
The objective of the Social Anthropology Master of Arts Program delivered by Yeditepe University is to provide our graduates with the necessary theoretical background, and help them to develop an awareness of ethical issues in social sciences. Towards the end of the program, our graduates will be able to conduct an original social science research project and write an ethnography and/or a scientific report about the results of their research. During their education, our students are encouraged to adopt a positive social standpoint towards the society and discover the cultural aspects of İstanbul more thoroughly. In recent years, parallel with the department’s interest in environmental anthropology, a research project assisted by TÜBİTAK has started, being conducted on the forest villages in Turkey.
Upon graduation, our graduates can work in different fields such as academic settings, research companies, museums, media companies, public institutions like DIE, DPT, foundations, international organizations like UNESCO, UNICEF, ILO, WHO. Moreover, as it is the case in other social sciences, a proper education in anthropology presents a novel perspective to work in different sectors. During the recent years, anthropology has become a popular field of occupation in areas such as advertisement and market studies in the private sector. For example, companies such as Avea and Turkcell have started to employ anthropologists in higher positions.
