Overview

In the Master’s specialisation Global Environment and Sustainability you will gain the required knowledge of the economic, political, ethical and societal dimensions shaping environmental problems and possible solutions in a globalising world. This specialisation focuses on international climate policies and discusses the relation between globalisation and environmental justice, taking differences between rural and urban regions into consideration. 

Furthermore, you will discuss how environmental NGOs see transformations towards sustainability. Numerous examples of how countries in both the Global North and Global South deal with governance for global sustainability issues and the various interests at play will be studied.

This Master’s prepares you for a career as:

• Policy advisor at a national government or an international organisation
• Environmental practitioner or consultant
• Campaigner at an environmental NGO

• Can a country that struggles with extreme poverty be asked to invest time and money in environmental issues?
• Who should pay for climate change effects: the countries that contributed most to climate change, the strongest shoulders or all countries?
• How can nature conservation and sustainable management of forests help in enhancing forest carbon stocks?
• What is the role and impact of international NGO’s in contributing to the livelihoods of indigenous people in Bolivia?
