Description

James Mackendrick was an artist from Ayrshire who attended the GSA from 1938 to 1942 studying Fine Art. Over fifty years after graduating, he decided to bequest his entire estate to the GSA for annual student awards as a result of the GSA’s contribution to his personal and professional life. The first Mackendrick scholarship was offered in 2000. 

Benefits

1 or 2 years depending on length of course. Recipients on a two-year programme will receive £2,500 per year. For the scholarship to continue to year 2, students must have satisfactorily completed year 1.

  • Open to Postgraduate painting students (including MFA where the applicant specialises in painting).

Applicants must submit one digital image of a A5 sized painting based on the theme “The City of Glasgow”. One digital image of your piece of work must be emailed to match up with your application form.
