The University of Birmingham has a long-standing, proud partnership with the Chevening Scholarship program, supporting future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from around the world.
Each year, the University of Birmingham commits to funding approximately 10 additional Chevening-Birmingham partner awards, enabling even more Chevening Scholars to study at our institution.
According to the latest Chevening Partner Report, the University of Birmingham ranks as the 6th most popular choice among Chevening applicants, with roughly 5,600 candidates selecting Birmingham as their study destination.

Chevening Scholarships provide full funding, including tuition, living expenses, and travel, for a one-year master’s degree in the UK, allowing Scholars to focus fully on their studies while they prepare to make meaningful contributions in their home countries. Eligibility
To apply for a Chevening Scholarship, you must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Commit to returning to your country for at least two years after your award.
- Have at least two years of work experience (equivalent to 2,800 hours).
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s program.
- Apply to three eligible UK university courses and have an unconditional offer from at least one by the deadline in the summer, specified by Chevening (see Chevening website).
Ineligibility: Applicants holding British or dual citizenship (except for British Overseas Territories or BN(O) status from Hong Kong) and those who have previously studied in the UK on a government-funded scholarship are not eligible to apply.
