Bucharest city life
Bucharest is situated on the banks of Dâmbovita and is structured on seven hills: Mihai Voda, Dealul Mitropoliei, Radu Voda, Cotroceni, Spirei, Vacaresti and Saint Gheorghe the New. The city has areas and neighbourhoods with unique features.
The city’s architecture blends the old with the new and includes landmarks and sites such as the Cantacuzino Palace, the glass arcade covered street of Macca-Vilacrosse, the CEC Palace, House of Capsa or the Central school for girls. The House of the Parliament is the largest Parliament building in the world and second largest structure.
In Bucharest you will find large parks with lakes, such as Herastrau, Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Tineretului, Cismigiu or you can visit the impressive Botanical Garden. You may enjoy a walk in the urban area or spend the day near the city at the largest wellness and relaxation centre in Europe.
The cultural scene is represented by the National Museum of Art of Romania, the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, Museum of the village, the Military Museum or the National History Museum. The National Library of Romania has been restored and now it attracts many visitors.
Performance halls are present throughout the city. Some of them are the Romanian National Opera, Romexpo or I.L. Caragiale National Theatre. Among the local annual events there are the George Enescu Festival or Gaudeamus Book Fair. Nightlife is concentrated in bars, pubs, clubs or cafes.
International atmosphere in Bucharest
A significant amount of the city’s inhabitants are Romanians. However, you may also meet Hungarians, Jews, Turks, Chinese and Germans. Some of these ethnics have their own communities, at the margins of Bucharest.
The locals of Bucharest, especially the students and those who recently graduated know English at an advanced level. You can enjoy socializing with locals and benefit from an international experience.
