History
Among the 17 first European Universities Alliances selected in July 2019, the CIVIS journey started with the ambition to become a space for innovative and responsible teaching, research, cultural exchanges and citizen action within Europe.
Our Global Strategy puts a special focus on the Mediterranean region and Africa, rooted in the belief that our future is interconnected.
Education
As a student from one of the CIVIS Alliance universities you have access to a range of opportunities that will allow you to grow and learn in a rich multicultural and multilingual environment. Our universities offer programmes on-site, online or with blended mobility. Together, we organise over 500 undergraduate and 1500 postgraduate programmes.
This February, our universities launch a groundbreaking Master's in Transdisciplinary Studies of Climate, Environment, and Energy (TRACEE). Open to students from all disciplines, this programme equips you to find innovative solutions to tackle climate change, energy transitions, and environmental crises. This programme welcomes students beyond CIVIS Universities.

Early-stage researchers and senior academics alike benefit from the guidance, network-builiding capacities and exchanges CIVIS facilitates. Job opportunities, career development resources and partnership possiblities are some of the advantages of evolving in as a researcher in CIVIS. Campus life
European Universities Alliances aim to become inter-university campuses where students, academics and administrative staff can move seamlessly. We work together to pool our expertise, infrastructures and resources to build new study programmes and research projects.
CIVIS is the fruit of the special collaboration between 11 leading research universities across Europe: Aix-Marseille Université, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Bucharest, Université libre de Bruxelles, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Sapienza Università di Roma, Stockholm University, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, University of Glasgow, Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and University of Lausanne.
Student clubs
CIVIS empowers students to take an active role within the Alliance, as members of the Student Council, as CIVIS ambassadors or by leading projects to foster student community building.
The CIVIS Student Council is the body representing all students enrolled at the 11 member universities of the CIVIS Alliance. The council is the voice of the students, and its goal is to ensure that the needs of the students are met and respected.
CIVIS Ambassadors are your first point of contact if you are studying at a CIVIS member university. Contact the Ambassadors if you want to get involved or simply want to know what CIVIS has to offer!
