Studying in Stockholm

In Sweden, the academic year begins at the end of August and lasts until the beginning of June. In most universities, the main languages of instruction is English, especially for postgraduate degrees. For the English entry requirements, IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge and Pearson are the accepted certifications. Tisus is recognised by all the universities in Sweden as a statement of eligibility regarding Swedish language proficiency, for international students who consider following their studies in Swedish.

Career opportunities in Stockholm

Stockholm has a flourishing and prosperous economy; the city’s economy alone covers a third of the country's GDP, and is among the top ten regions in Europe by GDP per capita. The career opportunities in Stockholm are numerous and diverse, especially since here you can find the seat of the government of Sweden and of most government agencies.

The largest industry is the service industry, which covers around 85% of jobs in Stockholm, followed by high technology, tourism and manufacturing (metal, machine, chemicals).

Large employers in Stockholm include: IBM, Ericsson, Electrolux, Swedbank, Skandia, the Stockholm Stock Exchange, H&M (headquartered in the city), Ericsson, Capgemini, Sodexo and Veolia Transport.

Stockholm city life

You have so many interesting places to see and discover while you are in Stockholm that it is impossible to get bored. Stockholm is home to three of Sweden's World Heritage Sites: The Drottningholm Palace, Skogskyrkogården (The Woodland Cemetery) and Birka.

Almost 30 % of the population in Sweden is born outside Sweden, minorities include: Finnish and English, as well as Bosnian, Syrians, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Dutch, Spanish, and Croatian.

Stockholm hosts many international and multicultural events, one of the most famous is the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies and banquet.

The entire Sweden was stated as one of the easiest places in the world to set a business, and Stockholm is the major financial hub in the country, among Europe’s top ten most powerful economies. For this reason, the city registered a large amount of foreign investment projects, attracting many international business people.

Weather Stockholm

Although located in a northern country, Stockholm has a relatively mild weather. Spring and autumn seasons are usually cool to mild. The average high temperatures during summer are around 20–25 °C (68–77 °F). Most of the rain or snow precipitation are falling in December and January and usually the winter season records a cloudy weather, with temperatures ranging from -3 to -1 °C (27 to 30 °F), and occasionally dropping below -20 °C (-4 °F). Daylight varies from more than 18 hours around midsummer, to only around 6 hours in late December.
