ESMT Berlin opened its main campus in Berlin in 2006 in the former GDR Staatsratsgebäude at Schlossplatz 1. Built in 1964, the building hosted the Staatsrat (National Council) of the GDR until 1989. After reunification, the building was used in many ways, including as the temporary office of the German Chancellor.
ESMT focuses on three main topics: leadership, innovation, and analytics. ESMT faculty publishes in top academic journals. Additionally, the business school provides an interdisciplinary platform for discourse between politics, business, and academia.
The MBA and executive MBA programs that are offered impart management and leadership skills to experienced professionals from diverse background and nationalities. The degree emphasizes the management of technology and responsible leadership.
The research concept of ESMT, developed by the full-time faculty, sets three major research areas which pertain to a certain area of expertise:
There is considerable overlap between these areas of research, and many of the faculty members are working on several research areas or their interfaces. Additionally, the behavior-theoretical research is fit to further link the three areas of competence.
For candidates interested in seeing ESMT in person, we organize personal visits on an individual basis. Please contact the Office of Admissions directly to arrange a visit and class participation.
Located outside Cologne, ESMT Berlin Campus Schloss Gracht is a retreat where the Metternich family lived for centuries. Its modern facilities include three auditoriums, 11 seminar rooms, and 78 hotel rooms.
ESMT Berlin Campus is a noteworthy example of Germany’s modern architectural heritage. Until 1989 the building housed the headquarters of the East German government. After reunification, it was used in varying functions and was the temporary office of the German chancellor from 1999 to 2001. It has since been renovated and transformed into one of Germany’s most modern educational centers.
ESMT is currently one of only three business schools in Germany to hold the “Triple Crown,” made up of successful accreditations of the world’s leading business education accrediting bodies AACSB, AMBA(Association of MBAs), and EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System). The “Triple Crown” is the highest distinction of quality for business schools worldwide.
