History
Eleftherios Venizelos was the first politician to start efforts to found a university in Thessaloniki at a time when Northern Greece had just been liberated and when reinforcing the “New Territories” . It was due to the initiative taken by the government of Alexandros Papanastasiou that the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1925.
Education
- The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki offers 41 Undergraduate study programmes that respectively lead to 1st cycle degrees.The minimum duration of studies is eight to ten semesters, and twelve semesters for the Medical School.
- Currently, there are many Postgraduate Study Programmes operating in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, among which there are some Inter-departmental and Inter-institutional ones, and also some in collaboration with other universities in Greece and abroad. There is an appropriate body for recognition of a foreign University degree and that is the Inter-University Center for Recognition of Foreign Academic Titles.

Career
The Career Services Office (CSO) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was established in 1997, following the model of other career services offices already in operation in universities abroad.Its main goal is to provide its services to students and graduates of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in order to facilitate their successful transition from the university to the work environment and help them search for a job which corresponds to their qualifications, skills and the experience they have gained, providing them with the necessary information about further education and job opportunities.

University Ranking
Student services
The facilities of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki are located in the main campus and in the area of Thermi. Some educational and administrative facilities are located off campus for practical and operational reasons. A number of these facilities are located outside the city of Thessaloniki or even in other cities.
Housing services
Undergraduate and postgraduate A.U.Th. students, as well as PhD candidates, who come from large and/or low-income families, are entitled to free accommodation in the Student Halls of Residence. Social and economic criteria are considered for the selection of the students eligible to be accommodated in the Students Halls of Residence. All other students are welcome to visit the Department of Studies website.
Library services
The Library and Information Centre of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is an independent university unit which consists of the Central Library and its branches (Specialised Academic Libraries and Departmental Libraries). The Library and Information Centre supports teaching and research activities carried out at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
ICT services
The IT Center of AUTH is responsible for all network and computing infrastructure, the electronic services of the university, as well as the support of university users. Its activities cover the planning, development, procurement, management, security and maintenance of these ICT resources.
Medical services
All undergraduate and postgraduate students of Higher Education Institutions, including PhD candidates, are provided with health care services (hospital and medical services), pursuant to relevant provisions. The Student Health Care Service located in the University Student Club building and the AUTH Primary Health Care Centre located in the administration building.
Campus life
The main campus is located in the centre of the city of Thessaloniki, and covers an area of about 33.4 hectares. It comprises 10 faculties which consist of 40 schools and 1 single-School Faculty.

The University Gym of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki provides the students and personnel of the university with a wide range of sports programmes and activities. All programmes aim to improve the quality of life of the members of the academic community through sports, games and physical activity.
