Tinbergen Institute offers a research master program in economics, econometrics and finance as well as PhD opportunities under expert supervision by our international research fellows.
Tinbergen Institute defines quality standards for researchers. Researchers of the three participating Schools of Economics who meet TI’s quality standards can become TI research fellows. TI has formed eight research groups, focused on specific fields in economics.
Ask any of Tinbergen Institute’s over 600 PhD alumni, and they will tell you that a degree from TI is a stepping stone to a successful career. Roughly half of them work in research universities in the Netherlands and abroad (including National University of Singapore, University of Essex, and Purdue University) — many as full and tenured professors. A quarter of TI alumni work for national and international government organizations such as central banks, ministries, the World Bank and the IMF. The other quarter are employed in private-sector firms (usually large banks and consultancy firms).
Tinbergen Institute is located in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. TI Amsterdam is located near railway station Amsterdam Zuid and close to VU University Amsterdam, one of the participating host universities.
TI Rotterdam is located in the Tinbergen building at Erasmus School of Economics, at the heart of the vibrant Erasmus University campus.
Tinbergen Institute offers an excellent infrastructure: TI has its own offices, seminar rooms and a dedicated support staff in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Students have their own computer facilities and office space.
Financial hurdles frequently make people forego or postpone necessary care. Therefore, targeted reductions in healthcare prices may help to improve access to essential healthcare for the poor. This paper evaluates to what extent simple behavioral incentives like letters and flyers sent to low-income groups stimulate the participation in a beneficial health insurance plan.
In the spring of 2016, we will host the ‘Taste of TI’ program for admitted students of the forthcoming cohort 2016-2018.
This all expenses paid fly-in program offers a group of selected students an opportunity to get a taste of Tinbergen Institute. Admitted students will have a chance to explore the TI offices in Amsterdam; enjoy a welcome lunch; meet TI staff, speak with our Director of Graduate Studies, get their questions answered by current TI students and discuss their research interest with our fellows and may attend a class or seminar. The campus visit program will conclude with a reception in the city center of Amsterdam.
The Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) has officially re-accredited TI’s Master of Philosophy in Economics Program, based on a highly positive assessment report of the review commission of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The accreditation term runs from 2015 until 2021.
