Oulu combines a compact city life, strong student culture, easy access to nature and high-quality public services. For study environment and university, I don't have much to complain about. Students have access to excellent facilities for studying and research. Especially, University of Oulu is strong in ICT, wireless technology, heath tech and education. Many English-taught MSc and BSc options.
The University of Oulu has a strong research focus and a supportive academic culture. As a PhD researcher at Oulu Business School, while working on my research project, I�ve found the environment intellectually stimulating and encouraging of independent thinking. It�s professional, research-driven, and genuinely supportive of long-term academic growth. Furthermore, the university has plenty of cultural events that you can attend!
I�m currently pursuing my Master�s in Computer Science at the University of Oulu, and my experience so far has been very positive. The university offers a highly international environment, which makes it easy to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. What stands out to me is how much the university genuinely cares about its students. There are plenty of career-oriented seminars, guidance sessions, and support systems that help students prepare for their future. The campus atmosphere is safe and welcoming, with friendly people and a strong sense of community. I also appreciate the sports facilities and initiatives, which encourage a healthy balance between academic and personal life. That said, the academic workload can be quite demanding. The structure of completing two periods within a single semester can feel intense at times. However, this also pushes you to stay disciplined and focused. There are plenty of versatile and affordable housing options available for students in Oulu. Oulu University of Applied Sciences does not have student halls of residence but student housing for all degree students, both Finnish and international, is mainly provided by the Student Housing Foundation of Northern Finland PSOAS. Students can also find housing from private markets.
PSOAS offers over 5000 flats around Oulu for students, including shared, family and studio apartments. Most of the apartments are unfurnished. Inexpensive self-catering student housing in single rooms is usually offered by the student halls of residence. Most rooms have a communal kitchenette, a toilet and a shower.
The library offers up-to-date services and collections that support studying and learning. In addition to the printed library collections, the students and staff of Oamk have access to a wide collection of electronic materials on campus and remotely from home
In order to come to Finland students are recommended to have a valid health and accident insurance that also covers them also during travel to and from Finland. Institutions of higher education do not cover accidents during a students stay in Finland, and without valid insurance the medical payments may be high.
We are moving to our new campus in Linnanmaa in 2020. The Oulu Campus Linnanmaa will be the biggest campus in Europe operating under one roof. The campus begins operating in the Autumn of 2020.

Numerous cafes and restaurants make sure that you will not go sleep hungry. Night life is vivid and since Oulu is one of the biggest student cities in Finland, there are traditionally student parties taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The Student Union of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OSAKO) is an organisation devoted to representing the interests of OUAS students and providing them with various services. In addition to looking after the interests of students, OSAKO organises various events and happenings aimed at students.
