Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts

History

The origins of Coburg University in Germany is a private school for “civil architecture”, which was founded in Coburg in 1814 by the ducal architect, Friedrich Streib (1781-1852). The purpose of the school was to prepare the builders of that time for the title of “Meister” (master craftsman).

Education

At the Coburg University all undergraduate programs include a required internship. Project work – oftentimes across disciplinary boundaries – is part of student life. And seminars and projects with companies and social institutions are common components of our programs of study.

Research

As a University of Applied Sciences, Coburg University focuses on application-oriented research. We aim to use the results of our research to solve concrete, practical issues.
The application-oriented research contributes significantly to the creation of technical, economic, social, and societal innovations.

Revenue from third-party funds of Coburg University have risen steadily in recent years. In 2015 our third-party funds totaled 5.96 million euros.
All academic departments of the university take part in projects funded by such revenue. These projects range from collaborations with companies as part of a master's thesis to large research projects with more than a dozen partners.

My university has good facilities and good professors, the courses are right into the program purpose and the exams are high standard. The accommodation is very good as well.

Student services

The International Office connects Coburg University in Germany with almost every continent. It supports the international students, maintains contacts with the partner universities worldwide and promotes international mobility and understanding.

Housing services

The International Office supports students looking for accommodation. Some students are offered a flat in our student residences which have 500 single apartments with kitchen, bathroom/WC, and modern facilities.
The apartments must be rented for a minimum of half a year (September-February and March-August). The rent is between 170 EUR and 200 EUR per month for the dorms and up to around 250 EUR for private rooms.

Library services

The International Office supports students looking for accommodation. Some students are offered a flat in our student residences which have 500 single apartments with kitchen, bathroom/WC, and modern facilities. The apartments must be rented for a minimum of half a year (September-February and March-August).

Medical services

Anyone wanting to study in Germany needs health insurance – without this you won't be able to enroll in a German university. Many students will be able to use their health insurance from their home country.
Germany has concluded social insurance agreements with some countries, including the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area.

Campus life

The Campus Friedrich Streib offers an impressive view of the historic old town of Coburg and the Fortress Coburg.
Three quarters of our students are at this campus and study in the fields of natural sciences and engineering, social work and health as well as business administration. The university administration and the central administration have their headquarters here.

The first buildings on Campus Friedrich Streib were dedicated and opened on May 20, 1960; they were from the predecessor of the university, the State School of Construction. The first student dormitory was built in 1961.
