The history of Sorbonne University is inseparable from that of the University of Paris, founded in the 13th century, and the place which has become its main center of influence, the Sorbonne. It is in this crucible of the University of Paris, reorganized under the Third Republic and then split up into thirteen autonomous universities in 1968.
