Founded under federal law, SUPSI is an autonomous organisation which was established by Canton Ticino 11th March 1997, and which has integrated preexisting specialised schools along with public and private research institutes. The origins of the oldest of these date back to architecture courses started in 1852 under the initiative of Carlo Cattaneo.
SUPSI offers more than 30 Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree courses, characterised by cutting edge education which unites classical theoretical-scientific instruction with a professional orientation.
SUPSI provides cutting edge, practice-oriented education. It promotes general improvement in basic teaching quality and creates personalised, constantly evolving study programmes for the industrial sector and the service industry.
With 30 million francs in financing and with more than 100 full time researchers and scientific collaborators, research at SUPSI is proportionally more significant than at other SWISS University of Applied Sciences (UAS) institutions.
The main feature of this research is the application profile, aimed chiefly at meeting the needs of companies and institutions, with a number of internationally recognised areas producing work of a high scientific level. SUPSI participation in European research projects is particularly noteworthy.

Some courses are interesting. But some are a bit old fashion (the professors are old age, not allowed to use PC even for taking a memo). And the grading system is sometimes unfair. However, the facilities are clean, students are nice, and not so difficult to pass and graduate.
