HZ University of Applied Sciences

At HZ, you will find a flat egalitarian organisational structure. You will be encouraged to ask questions, give your opinion, analyse and make recommendations. Interactions and discussions are highly appreciated during the lectures.

Top reasons to study here

  • As university of applied sciences we focus on practice-based education and research opportunities.
  • Our close cooperation with the business world, various research centres, and our global network of partner universities is of paramount importance.
  • Teachers and staff put great emphasis on individual coaching. Your study coach will help you choose courses and explore your career possibilities.

Education

HZ has around 5.000 students divided over four study years and 22 bachelor degree programmes, seven of which are taught in English. Some 500 students come from outside The Netherlands, so we have a great mix of Dutch and international students. Easy mathematics will tell you that with such numbers, classes are going to be small.

Research

A great deal of practical research is conducted at HZ. Questions from professional business practices are central focus points during this type of research. Issues are examined by lecturers, teacher researchers, business professionals and students. They are united in research centres and lectures, which all have a strong connection with the local area.

Career

Beginning in your first year with the HZ, you will be assigned a personal study career coach to assist with mapping out your individual study plan. This is extremely helpful in the beginning because at this stage you may not be fully aware of all possibilities available to help reach your goals. As you progress in in your studies, you will gradually make decisions independently but your personal coach is always available for advice.

Student Reviews

Broad range, loose studies.
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

During the first years you get lessons for 4 different courses. Within this study period you decide which of these courses you will graduate on. This gives the opportunity to get a feeling for the right type of subject you want to study. At the end of my studies I do notice that I used up a lot of time on the other study directions.

Civil Engineering at Netherlands
Isabella Alvarez del Castillo rated 4 out of 5 stars

Review Civil Engineering HZ University
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

The atmosphere is great and everyone is very friendly and open. The teachers care about the students and the small classrooms make it easy to follow lessons. However, It is quite similar to a high-school level of learning and sometimes we as students lack challenges. So something to improve would be to have more advanced courses or more subjects in general.
