HZ University of Applied Sciences

HZ University of Applied Sciences is a Dutch university of applied sciences located in Zeeland, in the southwest of the Netherlands. HZ has campuses in Vlissingen and Middelburg and a community of around 5,000 students, including students from more than 70 nationalities.

As a university of applied sciences, HZ focuses on practice-based education. You combine theory with real-life projects, practical assignments and internships, often in collaboration with companies and organisations. This helps you develop both professional knowledge and practical experience for your future career.

HZ combines education with practice-oriented research. Students, lecturers, researchers and professionals work together on real-world questions and challenges.

HZ's practice-oriented research focuses particularly on three broad areas: water, energy and vitality. Research addresses complex social and professional challenges, including themes such as climate adaptation, water and coastal protection, energy transition and the transition towards a bio-circular economy.

The Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ) in Middelburg is an important part of HZ's research environment. It brings together students, researchers, companies and government partners to work on urgent social issues in the South West Delta.

HZ prepares students for professional careers through practice-based education, internships, projects and collaboration with companies and organisations.

Students work on real-world challenges and develop professional skills alongside subject knowledge. Personal guidance is available throughout the study programme, helping students make decisions about their studies, development and future career.

HZ's Work Zone supports students in finding internships, side jobs and employment opportunities. International students can combine their studies with international internships and study opportunities through HZ's partner network.
