History
The School of Environment & Life Sciences is a thriving centre and each year welcomes approximately 300 students from countries across the world.
Education
Our students benefit from purpose built facilities, including a variety of laboratories and lecture theatres. The School is housed in the majestic Peel Building. Many of our courses are accredited by leading industry associations in recognition of the quality of our curriculum.
Research
The Ecosystems and Environment Research Centre is an interdisciplinary Centre with over 30 academics and 40 doctoral students which addresses some of the major environmental challenges of the 21st century: climate change, biodiversity loss, natural resource management and spread of infectious diseases.The Centre carries out high quality real-world research that contributes to the scientific understanding of the physical and biological dimensions of environmental change and its impact on humans.

Housing services
One of the most important decisions you need to make about your life as a student at Salford is where you are going to live. Whether you’re thinking of staying in University accommodation, living off campus or commuting from home, it’s important to consider your options.
Library services
Three library sites, located across a wi-fi enabled campus, including a state of the art facility at MediaCityUK. Our cutting edge resource discovery tool, SOLAR, allows access to all our academic resources from a single interface, including more than 365,000 books, 35,000 e-journals and 600,000 e-books and several special collections and archives.
ICT services
The University's licence agreements mean that some software titles are available for distribution from IT Services, or at discounted prices for use either on campus or at home. Personal or home use is subject to compliance with the supplier's terms and conditions.
Medical services
Health Services
- Student Life work in partnership with NHS services in the community to ensure that you get the care and support that you need while you study at Salford.
- In order to make sure that you are able to access medical treatment as soon as possible when you need it, it is recommended that you register with a GP as soon as you arrive at University.
Campus life
Come to Salford and you’ll be based on a leafy, riverside campus only one and a half miles (2.5km) from Manchester city centre – so you’ll get the best of both worlds.
We have four University campuses, which, over the last few years, have undergone significant regeneration to offer the best learning spaces for you to develop your skills in your chosen subject area.
We’re continuing to invest heavily in our campus and facilities, to ensure that you get a great university experience.
Sports facilities
Sports Centre: If it’s sport you’re into then the Sports Centre, open 7 days a week, has something for you. Whether you’re looking to make a splash in our five lane 25m pool, or chill out and relax in the spa and sauna, there really is something to suit all tastes, needs and purposes.
Student clubs
Our Students’ Union has a range of great facilities for you to use and events to get involved with, such as our activity groups. There are over 70 student led clubs and societies, and, if you can’t find what you’re looking for – then why not start your own?
