History
- 1881 - University College Nottingham opened at Shakespeare Street consisting of four Professors and three demonstrators.
- 1998 - The department, formally became the School of Chemistry. In the 50 years since University status was awarded, Chemistry at Nottingham has moved from humble beginnings to arguably one of the top Chemistry Schools in the UK.
Education
The School offers a wide range of undergraduate honours degree courses both from within the School and collaboratively with other Schools across the campus, recruiting 150 new undergraduates each year. This range of courses reflects the ‘centre stage’ that Chemistry occupies within the sciences, as well as the wide range of career opportunities available to science graduates.
Research
During their fourth year, MSci students are invited to join an active research group within the School to contribute to projects that are at the cutting-edge of chemistry. You will be given greater independence and you will be responsible for driving your own project, although a postgraduate research student and an academic member of staff in your research group will always be available to help.

- Catered halls of residence - offer rooms with a mixture of ensuite facilities and shared bathrooms, plus some flats and studios. Pantries are available for a midnight snack and we provide a small fridge in your room.
- Self-catered halls of residence - offer flats and studios with a mixture of ensuite and shared bathroom options. Studios are self-contained with their own kitchen, shared flats offer communal kitchens and living spaces. Self-catered halls can offer increased flexibilty around your meal times.
- Sutton Bonington Campus - offer a part-catered meal plan for blending social time and flexibility to our Undergraduates, and a self-catered option for our Postgraduates.
