History
Founded in 1993 by Royal Dahir (decree), Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane opened its doors to students in January 1995. Based on the principles of diversity and an international outlook, the university's mission is driven by values of human solidarity and tolerance.
Education
Al Akhawayn has modeled its administrative, pedagogical, and academic organization on the American university system, and English is the language of instruction. Still, in its infancy, the university has already developed a national and international reputation for its unique identity and potential.

A journey of self acceptance
-"A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one." My public speaking professor said this to me, and it triggered a journey of self acceptance. Although I excelled at many fields/classes, I never found myself specifically drawn to one in particular. When I first joined AUI, I was a confused teenager. I changed my major twice. I entered the university as a renewable engineering student, and now I am leaving it as a finance/engineering graduate. The intermediary major I had was general engineering. I knew I liked to solve problems and research topics, which is why I chose engineering. However, I was never drawn to a specific field alone. I loved moving from topic to another. I published a research paper in energy harvesting, I also worked on projects in construction, sustainability, carbon markets, financial markets, trading, survival analysis, agriculture, statistics of pandemic, optimization, and management. I loved expanding my mind by doing research and gaining knowledge. This intellectual expansion moved to arts. I always thought that artistic skills were something you were born with, until I took a drawing class and realized that ANYTHING can be learnt. I tried dancing next, and became an exquisite belly dancer in a month. I also always believed that I was not an athletic person, until I signed up to the golf club in my university and proved my old self wrong once again. The diversity of experience and multi-disciplinarity that my university offered were essential for my self discovery and were pillars to my confidence. I now believe that I can learn anything, better yet quickly, since I have proved myself capable over and over. All it took was for that public speaking professor to give me a push. My overall experience at university was very positive. I made friends and strong connections, gained confidence, and most importantly gained exceptional skills, both technical and social. One more important part of my journey was the employability office. I was very active with their events, which enabled me to gain excellent networking and interviewing skills. However, the only downside was the complicated exchange procedures, which kept me from going on perhaps more eye-opening experiences abroad. Also, my university could improve its faculty selection: most professors are inspiring and very competent, but not all.
Strong Education, Better Support Needed
My experience at Al Akhawayn University has been very positive overall. I really liked the English-based education system, the diverse environment, and the strong focus on critical thinking and participation. The campus life is also very active, with many clubs and opportunities to grow both academically and personally. However, there are some areas that could be improved, such as administrative processes which can sometimes be slow, and better career support or internship guidance for students. Overall, it’s a great university that prepares students well for international opportunities, but with a few improvements, it could be even better.
Great experience
My experience at Al Akhawayn University was very valuable both academically and personally. The university offers a strong learning environment where courses are taught in English and follow the American liberal arts system, which encourages critical thinking, participation, and independent work. The small class sizes made it easier to interact with professors and ask questions, which helped me better understand the material and stay engaged in discussions. I also appreciated the diverse student community, which created opportunities to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Student services
The Student Activities Office (SAO) provides students with different opportunities to engage in cultural, educational, social, and recreational activities, which are an integral part of the living-learning community at AUl.
Housing services
At AUl, the on-campus housing doesn't just provide the practical basics; it's a pathway to becoming an integral part of student life. You'll be able to explore exciting opportunities such as programs and activities with your peers while living in stylish dormitories equipped with modern amenities like heating systems, cable television service, kitchens, laundries and more - all overlooking breathtaking cedar forests!
Library services
This impressive building is a popular destination for students who wish to take their studies to greater heights. At our library, we welcome study groups as well as host various educational events - all designed with one purpose in mind; helping you gain access to and use the information towards furthering your learning experience while on campus.
Medical services
The AUI Health Center has four doctors and four nurses. All students are automatically enrolled in the university health insurance plan. The Health Center also offers counseling services.
Campus life
The students' comfort, well-being and safety are paramount. The campus' perfect setting offers excellent facilities for their overall emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. There are about 10 sports clubs and over 40 student organizations, 3 student publicationsand a media outlet.The campus provides a wealth of services for our students, faculty and staff to make life easier - from banking needs through the ATM to IT support with ITS, health care at the center or counseling options when needed; not forgetting housekeeping, copy and shuttle services too. Security is provided around-the-clock onsite as well.
