Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University was founded in 1988 as an extension of Tarbiat Moa’lem (teacher education) University of Tehran, with the purpose of educating high school teachers for the Ministry of Education.
Education
In 2001, however, based on revisions of the objectives and needs, the university transformed itself into an all-purpose university offering degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Housing services
Dormitory is part of the welfare facilities of the university where students can spend their free and relaxing time according to the relevant general regulations and make use of its cultural, educational, and sporting facilities by observing other students’ rights while he is residing. The university and students both are considered as pivots of the country’s scientific, cultural, social development, and dormitories as the students’ second home are of vital importance in reinforcing spiritual joy, psychological peace and quiet, mental development, personality development, and educational improvement in term of quality.
Library services
The Central Library is located at the university’s main campus in a recently built building. It hosts more than 134,000 volumes (plus 40000 downloadable e-books) on different academic subjects both in English and Persian. It utilizes modern information technology for searching, downloading e-books, booking, and renewing.
Medical services
An efficient Health Center run by a full time GP and two assisting nurses offers free services. There is also a small dentistry operating throughout the week. A small but adequate pharmacy provides urgent and frequently needed prescribed medicine. A highly equipped stand-by ambulance is also available round the clock.

Sports facilities
The ASMU campus has one of the most equipped and efficient sport centers in the region, facilities ranging from a big indoor swimming pool to various indoor courts for table tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, five-siders, fitness room, track and field, and a big outdoor football field.
