The Government of India, through the Ministry of Education, has established seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER). These institutes are located in Bhopal, Berhampur, Mohali, Pune, Kolkata, Thiruvanantapuram and Tirupati.
IISER Pune is a research-intensive teaching institute. Our faculty and students investigate questions in science that lie beyond the boundaries of conventional thinking. The whole ambience is very academic.

Going beyond the call of academic work, there are several student organisations/clubs devoted to sports, entertainment, recreation and a variety of other fields of interest. Each of these activities is overseen by a faculty coordinator under the umbrella of Committee on Student Activities (COSA). As part of these clubs, the students meet regularly and organize events, workshops, field trips, lectures and other activities.
IISER Pune began functioning in the NCL campus in 2006. During 2007-2008, it moved to a hired transit campus, where the essential components such as classrooms, teaching and research laboratories (chemistry, biology and physics), and library were immediately established.
In the year 2012, IISER Pune, along with four other IISERs, was declared as an Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament.Student life at IISER is vibrant and can be a very enriching experience.
