Key Facts and Outcomes

We have about 25 faculty members, 15 postdoctoral fellows, and 50 PhD and Integrated PhD scholars as of 2021. We have on average 15-20 BS-MS students who opt to do their master thesis in Mathematics.

Two annual events have been a defining feature of the Math department at IISER Pune: the Math Symposim and the Math Day celebrations in March each year. The image seen in the banner above is a mural created by our own members in one such initiative. Created in 2015, this mural now adorns the Lounge room in the Math department. The artists included Vishrutha, Tanushree Shah, Devika Varma, Aswathi, Shreeya Behera and Tejas Kalelkar.

General requirements

tudents with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale in aggregate for SC, ST, and PD candidates) in BSc any specialization or B.Tech, and qualifying additional criteria as given below can apply for the MSc programme in Mathematics

Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview based on their score/ rank in: -

JAM 2022 in MA or MS only. (Rank up to 500). The rank should be valid at the time of admission.

NBHM 2022 examination for Masters Scholarships or PhD scholarships. The score should be valid at the time of admission.

Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection is subject to their successful completion of the Bachelor's degree with the above-mentioned requirements at the time of admission.
