The school was founded in 1970 by the Iranian philanthropist, Seyed Hossein Fallah Noshirvani. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the school merged with the University of Mazandaran (UMZ) to become a College of Engineering and changed its curriculum to offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in engineering.
The educational office is responsible for ncoordination of all educational issues, both for undergraduate and graduate programs. The main task of staff in this office is collaboration in managing the learning programs and monitoring on student's educations.
The university now has 6 Schools, including School of Basic sciences, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Materials and Industrial Engineering and School of Mechanical Engineering. It has also several interdisciplinary research groups and centers, namely Nanotechnology, Fuel Cell, Sea-Based Energy, High Voltage Substations, Intelligent Systems, Metal Forming and Renewable Energy.

It is important for Babol Noshirvani University of Technology to provide proper places for students to live with welfare services. These dormitories are allocated based on priority for new students. Also, the university tries to provide a good atmosphere for students in order to keep their bodies, souls and minds healthy.
The university offers students the opportunity to learn how to live in an academic atmosphere and how to accept individual responsibilities as a part of group life. Dormitories are separated to sections, i.e. males and females.
There are three complexes for accommodation of university students which two of them were allocated for females and one of them (includes three blocks) for males.
Established in 1970, the Central Library of the Babol Noshirvani University of Technology offers all the services of a modern academic library on 1,500 square meters. The library consists of three floors. The first floor contains trusteeship room, indexing room and official section. The second floor contains referential and informational section, magazines part and study rooms.
The Information Technology (IT) center at Babol Noshirvani University of Technology (BNUT) acts under University’s Dean of research and Technology. The IT center supports all major processes at the University and provides basic and individually tailored services for all university schools.
Health care and medical treatment are two important issues that play a major role in creating a dynamic academic society. The health, treatment and consultation center is located inside the university that has one physician and medical staff for visiting and curing students and one well-equipped dentistry center.
