History
Tampere University was formed at the beginning of 2019 when two previously separate universities, Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere, merged into one. The University of Tampere was first established in 1925 and Tampere University of Technology in 1965. Thus, Tampere University has many decades’ experience in educating university students.

The research undertaken at our Centres of Excellences (CoE) ranges from game culture studies to tumour genetics.

Great Learning and Research Environment
Tampere University offers a great academic environment with a strong focus on research and innovation. The professors are knowledgeable and approachable, and the courses are well-structured with practical applications. The university has excellent facilities, including modern labs and libraries. Overall, it�s a great place for higher education, especially for students interested in technology and engineering. I would highly recommend it!
The City of Students
As an aspiring student from Bangladesh, I, Md Mehedi Hasan, wanted to advance my education and profession by earning a better degree from Finland. After extensive work and research, I discovered the Science and Engineering programme at Tampere University, Finland. As a new student at Tampere University, I�ve gained valuable insights and experiences that extend beyond academics. The fuksi events offered a warm introduction to university life, fostering connections and immersing me in Finnish traditions. The modern libraries and labs on the Hervanta campus have been helpful in enhancing my academic journey, providing access to resources and hands on learning opportunities. Additionally, the variety of student events and activities has enriched my experience, encouraging personal growth, collaboration, and exploration. Tampere University has already helped me build knowledge, skills, and friendships that are shaping my future.
I AM ACCEPTED
When I first arrived in Tampere as an international student from a Muslim country, I was anxious and self-conscious. I often worried about being judged for my clothing or for practicing my faith. However, the open-minded and respectful environment in Tampere quickly changed my perspective. People here are focused on their own lives and give others the space to be themselves. I�ve never felt discriminated against based on my gender or religion. There are also plenty of opportunities here. The learning environment is excellent, with good access to resources like computers and study spaces. One of my teachers has been incredibly patient and supportive in helping me with academic writing, which is something I didn�t have training in back home. Courses are taught differently here. For example, in the SCM course, we solve real-life problems from a company�s perspective. This was again something very new to me. In the MPB course, we worked on case studies that connect directly to real-world challenges. This hands-on learning has been very effective. Overall, I�m truly happy with my campus experience so far, and I hope the coming days will be just as rewarding. I�m currently working as an international tutor at TUNI (as a volunteer), helping guide new students. This experience has been unique and meaningful, and I�m grateful to TUNI for it.

Housing services
There are plenty of possibilities to find a place to stay in Tampere. Tampere Student Housing Foundation and several rental companies as well as private providers offer housing for students. Affordable living costs are one of the reasons why students choose Tampere.
Library services
Tampere University Library produces library and information services for students, researchers and staff of the Tampere higher education community. The Library also serves customers outside the academic community. Library services are provided at five locations.
Medical services
Finnish Student Health Service, FSHS, offers targeted low-threshold services designed to provide long-term health benefits for students. The range of services includes general health care, dental care and mental health services.
Campus life
Our campuses provide services (such as cafes and lunch restaurants) and flexible spaces in three different locations: City Centre, Kauppi and Hervanta.
City Centre Campus is a hub of leadership studies, education, natural sciences, medicine and life sciences, communication and social sciences.
- Hervanta campus and the surrounding area constitute a major technology hub. Side by side with Tampere University operates about 100 companies.
- The Kauppi campus is located near the Tampere University Hospital. It is the home base for medicine and life sciences.
Sports facilities
SportUni provides high quality and versatile sport services for students and personnel of Tampere Universities. You can use the services for affordable fee!
SportUni offers sports services on three campuses: City Centre, Hervanta and Kauppi. Of course, you can choose your own place to exercise according to your own schedule, close to your place of studies, next to your home, or just a nice bike ride away.
All campuses have comprehensive sports services, including gyms, group exercise activities, ball games and different courses.
Student clubs
Student Union of Tampere University, TREY, represents all university students in Tampere. TREY protects the interests of students, facilitates the work of student associations, provides services for its members as well as creates a sense of community. All of Tampere University students constitute the student union.
There are also over 150 associations operating within TREY, such as advocacy associations, subject associations and hobby associations. Advocacy associations operate on the faculty level and they supervise the interests of the faculty’s students. Subject associations organise tutoring and free-time activities for the students. Hobby associations operate on the basis of a hobby, interest or conviction.
