Danville, Kentucky, United States
Centre College was founded by Presbyterian leaders and officially chartered by the Kentucky Legislature on January 21, 1819. The name reflects the College’s location in the geographic center of Kentucky; British spellings were common at the time.

History

Instruction began in Old Centre—the College’s first building—in the fall of 1820, with a faculty of two and a student body of five. Classes followed the classical curriculum of the day, including Latin, Greek, rhetoric, and logic. Construction on Old Centre began in 1819 and was completed in 1820 at a cost of $8,000.

Education

We offer more than 50 majors, minors, pre-professional and dual-degree programs, and graduate partnerships. Or design your own major in consultation with your advisor.

Research

Centre students will study abroad, have an internship or research opportunity, and graduate in four years. We back our promise of a deeply engaging and intensely personal education with a guarantee. If you meet regular academic and social expectations, you will complete all three parts of the Centre Commitment, or the College will provide up to an additional year of study tuition-free.

Career

The Center for Career & Professional Development (CCPD) helps students and alumni plan, prepare, and promote their careers. CCPD helps students apply for internships, jobs and graduate school, as well as explore career options and interests.

Navigating the Academic Odyssey

As a second-year student at CEU, my journey unfolds with a mix of excitement and discovery. The coursework challenges me to delve deeper into my chosen field, while the vibrant campus life and diverse student community create an environment ripe for exploration. In these initial years, the approachable faculty at CEU has played a pivotal role in shaping my academic path. Their guidance has been invaluable as I navigate through the intricacies of my coursework and explore potential areas of specialization. The campus facilities continue to impress, providing me with the resources needed to excel in my studies. From collaborative study spaces to well-stocked library, CEU ensures that every student has the tools required to thrive academically. Being in my second year, I've had the chance to immerse myself in various student activities and organizations, adding a dynamic layer to my college experience. The camaraderie and shared passion among my peers make these engagements all the more rewarding. While I acknowledge that I'm still on the early steps of my academic journey, CEU has laid a strong foundation for my growth. The challenges and triumphs of these initial years promise a fulfilling and promising road ahead, making me optimistic about what lies beyond my second year at this institution.

Housing services

Everyone at Centre lives and works as a community. Our residence halls provide comfort, convenience, and safety in an environment that promotes respect and responsibility.

Northside’s rooms are large, double rooms arranged in suites, super-suites or pods, offering individual gender-neutral restrooms. The energy-efficient building also features study rooms, kitchens, lounge space, laundry facilities, social space, and low loft-style furnishings, among other amenities. When fully complete, it will offer an outdoor social and study space.

A Licensed Practical Nurse, a Registered Nurse, and a Physician’s Assistant are available during regular hours. Physician Clinics are offered four days each week.

Campus life

The Campus Center serves as the dining and student center on campus. The two-level, 50,000-square foot building was designed for comfort and socializing with informal seating areas surrounding fireplaces and 42-inch flat screen HDTVs.

The first level includes two dining facilities, a large food court featuring made-to-order stations, grab-and-go snacks as well as grilled and fresh fare, a spacious dining room with various-sized tables, two private dining rooms, and bistro seating along the main corridor.

The second level has a game lounge with pool tables and Wii game systems and designated spaces for student organizations.

Sports facilities

Sports are popular at a variety of skill levels. If you want to play, we have a team for you. Centre competes in the Southern Athletic Association, a Division III conference (no athletic scholarships). Around 40 percent of students play on one or more of 23 varsity teams. Intramurals are also popular, and teams are open to all. You might even compete against your professors!

Student clubs

Centre has some 87 campus organizations and each year more than 2,000 campus events. You don’t have to pick just one. Since 98 percent of students live on campus, it’s easy to participate and to find a friend to join you.

Accreditation

Centre College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Science degree.
