The University of South Carolina, the state’s flagship university which was founded in Columbia in 1801, began offering courses in Aiken for students interested in completing their degrees in Columbia. UofSC Aiken became the fourth campus founded of the eight that would eventually comprise the USC System.
UofSC Aiken provides bachelor’s and master’s degrees in over 50 programs of study while delivering many of the offerings of a large university on a small, friendly campus with intimate class sizes and personal attention. The commitment to continuing partnerships is woven into the fabric of the campus’ culture.
At UofSC Aiken, there are many opportunities for students and faculty to connect through research. The Division of Student Affairs is an integral educational and administrative component of the University of South Carolina Aiken which supports the overall mission of the University by enhancing the cognitive, ethical, emotional, occupational, physical and social development of students while adhering to the legal and ethical standards of our professions. The Division provides activities, programs and services to address the changing needs of students, staff, faculty and the community.
In addition to the many accommodations taking place daily in classrooms across the campus, the University provides an Assistive Technology Center equipped with computer access for students registered with the disability services office, electronic readers, alternative media formats, accessible seating, and modified software and hardware for computer access.

The Computer Services Division provides technology support to students, faculty and staff. We support the computing, networking, instructional technology and voice communication tools necessary to support the academic and administrative missions of the university.
The mission of the UofSC Aiken Student Health Center (SHC) is to provide assessment, treatment, and/or referral for common health issues experienced by the UofSC Aiken student community.
A truly safe campus can be achieved only through the cooperation of all students, faculty, and staff. There are many people contributing to the safety and security of the campus. The majority of crimes on campus are crimes of opportunity. The willingness of students, faculty, and staff to secure their property and to report suspicious activity is essential to the prevention of thefts and other crimes.
The Wellness Center seeks to provide safe, well-equipped facilities and trained, caring staff to the campus and Aiken Community. Located in the lower level of Business and Education Building, the Center is open seven days a week, housing a cardiovascular and strength training area, an aerobics room, an exercise testing laboratory, an educational room and locker room facilities.
The Natatorium is adjoining the Student Activities Center. The pool is open seven days a week for lifeguard-supervised activities including lap swimming, water aerobics, recreational activities, and pool party rentals. A competitive swim league also trains at the Natatorium. Locker room facilities are available.
With more than 60 student organizations, you will have many opportunities to take part as a leader or a member in experiences certain to enrich your college experience. There are also a wide range of programs and activities from cultural events, dances, comedians, and intramural sports.
In October 2009, the application for initial Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation was submitted and accreditation was granted in October 2011.
