Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, S.C. It offers bachelor’s degrees in 27 major fields of study and is well known for its programs leading to graduate and professional studies (medicine and other health professions, law, commerce and advanced graduate study across academic disciplines).

History

On July 4, 1851, the future Methodist Bishop William Wightman came to a beautiful site on a high ridge overlooking the tiny courthouse village of Spartanburg, S.C. As more than 4,000 people looked on, he made the keynote address while local Masons laid the cornerstone for Wofford College.

Research

The Office of Undergraduate Research provides support to all aspects of undergraduate research and other creative activities in which students and faculty are collaborative partners in scholarly/creative projects. The office is committed to:

  • providing support for campus conferences and events in which student scholarship is showcased.
  • assisting faculty and staff members in learning more about mentoring students in research and other creative projects.
  • collaborating with faculty, staff and students to support and strengthen undergraduate research.
  • advocating for full and equitable participation of students and faculty members in undergraduate research.

Waste of time

Constant timetable changes, resulting in less time for modules. Unorganised lecturers. Constantly changing briefs, half way through the semester. Poor facilities. No engagement with students that aren't on the main campus. Poor WiFi. Printers constantly don't work, office politics prevent them from being fixed. Go somewhere else,

Housing services

Incoming first-year students may request a specific roommate on the housing form. Those who do not request a specific roommate will be assigned a roommate using the information provided on the housing form. Answer each question honestly for the most compatible match. You will be notified of your room and roommate assignment in early August. When you receive your assignment, reach out to your roommate so you can start getting to know each other. After arriving on campus, you and your roommate will agree to some expectations for your living space.

Library services

There are more than 250,000 items in the collection, including books, journals, films, historical documents, and rare books. The library's online resources are available both on and off-campus 24 hours per day and include more than 200 databases, more than 350,000 electronic books, and 60,000 electronic journals. The library’s web page provides access to the full range of services.

Information Technology Services provides many technology services for our campus commuity.

Medical services

Payment of the comprehensive fee entitles resident students to medical care by the college nurses, nurse practitioner or physicians in ordinary cases of illness. The fee does not provide and Wofford College does not assume the cost of x-rays, medications, special nursing care, consulting physicians, surgical operations, laboratory tests, treatment of chronic conditions.

Campus life

Wofford is located a few blocks north of the central business district of Spartanburg, S.C., an international commercial center. Since its founding, the college has operated continuously on its original campus, which was designated a National Historic District in 1974. In November 2002, the entire 180-acre campus was designated as the Roger Milliken Arboretum. More than 5,000 trees have been planted since 1992.

Accreditation

Wofford is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Colleges (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Ga. 30033-4097) to offer the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. Wofford was one of nine colleges that met in 1895 to organize SACS.
