History
- Østfold nursing college, founded in 1955
- Halden teacher training college, founded in 1963
- Østfold college of engineering, founded in 1965
- Østfold regional college, founded in 1977
- Østfold social educator college, founded in 1980
Education
The university college has a total of just under 7,000 students. There are nearly 3,600 ordinary students at campus Halden, nearly 2,400 ordinary students at campus Fredrikstad, and nearly 1,000 students are taking continuing and further education programmes under the auspices of HiØ VIDERE (Centre for Continuing Education) at both campuses.
Research
Our R&D/artistic research contributes to and inspires cooperation across discipline and faculty boundaries and extensive cooperation with regional and other relevant parties.
All the faculties have research groups, and most members of staff are part of one or more such groups. Research groups can focus on narrow fields or be interdisciplinary, most involve staff from more than one faculty, and some also have members from other institutions.

Overcoming Challenges, Achieving Success
### **A Journey of Growth, Learning, and Achievement** My overall study experience has been both challenging and rewarding. Throughout my academic journey, I have gained valuable knowledge, developed critical thinking skills, and grown personally and professionally. The experience has taught me the importance of discipline, perseverance, and hard work, especially when facing academic and financial challenges. What I liked most was the opportunity to learn from knowledgeable instructors, interact with diverse classmates, and apply theoretical concepts to real-life situations. The supportive learning environment encouraged me to improve my skills, build confidence, and prepare for future career opportunities. I also appreciated the practical aspects of the program, which helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. One area that could be improved is increasing access to learning resources and technology to enhance students' academic experience. Additional career development workshops, mentorship programs, and practical training opportunities would also help students become even better prepared for the workforce. Overall, I would summarize my study experience as transformative and worthwhile. Despite the obstacles encountered along the way, the knowledge, skills, and personal growth I gained have made the journey meaningful and have prepared me for the next stage of my academic and professional life.

Housing services
The Foundation for Student Life (SiØ) offers new and modern residence halls in Fredrikstad and Halden and are a short walk or bike ride from the two campuses.
All students admitted to degree programmes or exchange programmes may apply for housing.
Library services
There are two faculty libraries covering professional needs in tutoring, writing of assignments, research and administration:
- Fredrikstad - Health- and Social studies, Engineering, Academy of theatre.
- Halden - Computer- and social science, Business, Foreign languages, Education.
Medical services
If you are an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen and have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC,) you must bring this card with you and make sure it is valid for the entire study period in Norway. The EHIC entitles you to necessary health care services on the same terms as Norwegians citizens.
