Claremont, California, United States
Claremont McKenna College, one of the nation’s top liberal arts colleges, prepares students to make a difference. The College educates students for thoughtful and productive lives and roles of responsible leadership through its strong, real-world mission. Admission to the College is need-blind and emphasizes the demonstration of leadership accomplishments.

History

In September 1946, 86 students and seven faculty members opened a new “undergraduate school for men” in Claremont, California. Classes began even before a name was chosen; the school was incorporated as Claremont Men’s College in the spring of 1947. CMC was the third Claremont College, following Pomona College and Scripps College.

Education

All undergraduate students at CMC must complete at least one major. In addition to completing the major requirements, students have the option to complete a “sequence”, which consist of a series of courses related to a subject, and selected from different disciplines offered at CMC or the other Claremont Colleges. The College offers a number of accelerated, joint or dual degree programs. CMC also has a single graduate program, a master of arts degree in finance.

Research

The research institutes and centers at Claremont McKenna College have one common goal: to provide CMC students with graduate-level research opportunities in conjunction with the College's distinguished faculty. In so doing, CMC students—as undergraduates—are afforded opportunities unparalleled at liberal arts colleges around the world.

Each institute or center has a specific mission and develops programs to meet academic and co-curricular objectives. Through the links below, you may delve into each of these CMC gems.

Career

Career Services @ the Soll Center for Student Opportunity partners with the wider CMC community to coach and empower students and alumni to formulate individual goals and strategies for achieving them. We connect students with opportunities that foster thoughtful exploration and early engagement for their personal and professional development.

My experience at MCC

Mount Carmel College is truly a dream come true. The classes are well equipped with all the latest technology, both the teaching and non teaching staff are very friendly. There are a few drawbacks such the lack of lifts and escalator, but over all it's an absolute honor to be here.

Student services

The Dean of Students Office is the department within Student Affairs that oversees most aspects of a student's life outside of class, including Residential Life, New Student Programs (such as Orientation and WOA), Student Activities, Academic Success, the discipline process, and coordination of the College's response to crisis situations involving students. As student advocates, the Dean of Students team provides a variety of services and extracurricular programs, as well as being available for one-on-one support and assistance.

Housing services

Claremont McKenna College has 14 residence halls and one student apartment complex. There are no “freshman dorms” at CMC; all residence halls are composed of students from various class years. Each residence hall and the student apartments have a Resident Assistant (RA) who acts as a liaison between students and the Dean of Students Office and helps to facilitate dorm life. Each RA is trained in first aid, CPR, counseling skills, and emergency situation protocol.

Library services

The Claremont Colleges Library supports the seven institutions comprising The Claremont Colleges consortium and is organized into five divisions plus the Dean’s office which includes Organizational Planning and Assessment.

ICT services

Information Technology Services supports technology services for the students of Claremont McKenna College. In all that we do, we strive to provide students with the best educational technology and support possible.

Medical services

Student Health Services (SHS) is usually the first line of defense. SHS is an outpatient primary care provider that services the entire CUC student community. Located at the Tranquada Student Services Center at 757 College Way, it’s open Monday through Friday and is appointment based. There is no charge for appointments and nominal fees apply for labs, X-rays, immunizations/dispensary medications.

Campus life

Located on a scenic, tree-lined residential campus 30 miles east of Los Angeles, Claremont McKenna is a member of The Claremont Colleges, a seven-college consortium modeled after Oxford University. CMC students choose from more than 2,200 classes and participate in co-curricular activities with 7,000 other students at Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, Pomona College, and Scripps College, as well as the Claremont Graduate University and Keck Graduate Institute. Students have the best of both worlds: the intimacy of a small residential college with small classes and a student-faculty ratio of nine to one, and the shared resources of a larger research university.

Sports facilities

The CMS Department of Athletics and Physical Education endeavors to enhance the liberal arts missions of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps colleges. By providing excellent educational, recreational, and competitive opportunities, CMS strives to build community, promote lifelong health, foster personal leadership and team growth, and uphold standards of responsibility, perseverance, character, integrity, and inclusion.

Student clubs

On the campus of CMC, there are over 50 different clubs and organizations you can join that cater to a variety of interests, cultures, and activities. If you are interested in learning about more of what we have to offer here on campus, attend the Club Fair hosted at the beginning of each semester to meet with group representatives and to learn more about how to become a member.

Accreditation

Claremont McKenna College is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission.
