The Royal Institute of Art (KKH)

The Royal Institute of Art (KKH) is an institution for higher education with a long artistic tradition dating all the way back to the 18th century. The education offered is diverse with courses in traditional methods as well as instruction in the most innovative and the very latest techniques.

  • The Five-Year programme fosters independent artistic work equipped to reflect on and expand the boundaries of contemporary art production. Students in the Five-Year programme build and strengthen their creative, interpretative and analytical skills, through the development of an autonomous and critically self-aware artistic practice.
  • The MFA programme at the Royal Institute of Art focuses on the development of an independent and reflexive artistic work capable of critically engaging in the production of art within an international context. Artists on the programme gain decisiveness in their practice based on the broadest conditions available for experimentation, knowledge production and artistic research.

The Royal Institute of Art fosters an emerging research environment focusing on art, the conditions for art production, and the contemporary challenges for such a practice within and beyond the art world.

The Royal Institute of Art hosts artistic research and development projects. They include artistic development projects, PhD studies, Mejan Residents, and externally funded research projects.
