Student services

Our summer schools are very intensive and research-based, however, most, if not all, have integrated (an) excursion(s), city tour or other social event(s) in their programme. If you have any questions about studying and being a student which are not directly related to your programme, come to the Student Service Centre (SSC). We can help you to look for answers and remove any obstacles that are blocking your study path.

Housing services

If you agree to have housing arranged for you, you will be offered a standard package with the following conditions:

  • Standard rental from Saturday 2PM to Saturday 10AM.
  • Standard rent price for one week: € 274 (7 nights). This includes cleaning, bed package, basic kitchen utensils and a practical welcoming package.
  • Check-in is available on Saturday between 2PM and 10PM or Sunday between 2PM and 4PM.

Library services

The library also provides dedicated study support and an extensive online learning environment.

Medical services

Students at institutes of higher education are not automatically insured against medical expenses abroad. You must arrange this yourself.

All international students in the Netherlands must have health insurance. NB Participants or guest lecturers who need a visa are required to show proof of a medical insurance.

Campus life

The University of Groningen offers excellent facilities, including a library with a large wide-ranging collection, plenty of workspaces and modern research rooms. Each student has different ambitions, interests and knowledge. To cater for these differences as effectively as possible, the University of Groningen has a range of ways to help you give your studies more content and colour. The University thinks it is important for students to develop their potential and to look beyond borders.

Sports facilities

Students of the University of Groningen or Hanze University Groningen are entitled to purchase an ACLO sports pass. For a small sum you can make unlimited use of the ACLO facilities for a whole year. Every year 18,000 students in Groningen buy one of these ACLO sports passes. Once you have your ACLO pass, you can choose from over 85 different sports! You can play these sports in the form of courses or during general time slots, by reserving courts or halls, or by joining one of the over 50 student sport clubs at the ACLO.
