Fooyin University was founded by Dr. Chang Peng Tu in 1958 at Tungang Town, Pingtung. At the beginning, it was a three-year “Senior Vocational High School of Midwifery,” the first medical and nursing vocational school established with private funds. Dr. Chang Peng Tu was the first Principal. In 1997, it was promoted to a technology university.
Fooyin University is famous for its nursing, medical and health sciences, environment and life sciences, and humanities and management. The school recruits the best qualified teachers in each field to carry out the teaching jobs. We not only value the abundant teaching experiences but also the practical and clinical experiences of the teachers. Currently, there are seven student dormitories (which include three male dormitory buildings and four female dormitory buildings) and one scholars’ dormitory (which include a hotel for students’ practicum). They can accommodate nearly 2800 students. The dorms are new and bright with all the modern equipment from central air conditioners, drinkable water, washing machines, dryers, internet accessibility, plug-in phones, lounge rooms, to karaoke rooms. We have professional self-managed dormitory management that is safe and secure.
The Fooyin University Library was first started in 1958 as a reading room in the nursing school. With the development and increasing book collection, a new 4-story building was constructed and opened for use as the new school library in 1991. Later in 1997, the library and the computer center were combined to be one department that further promotes the library and information services.
In 2003 the library adopted wireless network service that made internet and database searching more convenient for library users.
The university has a well-facilitated health center providing care for the students. The center will help with transferring sick students to hospitals, health education. We also have professional doctors provide students and staff with free clinical treatments and health consultatation.
Fooyin was moved to the Daliao campus in 1970. Now it is located in Daoliao District, Kaohsiung City. With the area of more than 17 acres, the campus is near Fengshan City, downtown Kaohsiung, Kaohsiung International Airport, Kaohsiung MRT and express way. The geography location is very convenient.On campus, both rows of tall trees and the natural environment reveal the unique environmental protection qualities of Fooyin. Under the trees, you can see teachers and students study together. Fooyin not only emphasizes on knowledge and skills but more on the inspiration of the personality.
